My name is Carrie Stangl and I am a teacher starting my twelfth year in the classroom. I teach sixth grade social studies at Frenship ISD in Lubbock, Texas. This is my third year teaching social studies and I have enjoyed it more than any other subject I have taught so far. It is fun to bring history and geography to life for my students and I look forward to finding new ways to engage them in my lessons.
I also recently finished my master's degree in Digital Learning and Leading at Lamar University. The digital world has become a huge part of education and my goal is to bring digital elements into my school as part of a blended learning environment.
When I am not teaching or in class, I enjoy spending time with my family and all things outdoors including hiking, running, and hunting.
I have been a long-distance runner for over 20 years. In the height of my running craze, I completed 3 half marathons, one full marathon, and countless 5 and 10k races. I have added other workouts such as boxing and hiking to my routine, but I still try to get a few miles in at least twice a week.
Running has been one of my best teachers in life. Throughout my years of training, I have learned how to persevere through injuries, plateaus, and aging. It has taught me to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors, and to take time for myself. Being an educator is stressful at times, and I make exercise a priority not only for my physical health but also for my mental well-being and encourage others to do the same.
