I created this video as part of my updated innovation plan. I have added to the research for my original blended learning plan, and have included a look into what has worked and what has not in other innovations.
Updated Innovation Plan for Blended Learning
In my original innovation plan, my focus was on blended learning station rotation models. I have updated my research and as a result, I am updating my innovation plan for blended learning. The driving questions behind my plan and my why have not changed. Are we using technology in the classroom to the fullest potential, and creating engaging lessons for students? Are we maximizing our time as teachers while giving quality feedback to students? These questions are still at the core of my plan for blended learning. The changes for my plan deal more with the work leading up to making this innovation a reality for my school, and what blended learning looks like in each classroom.
As I have continued to find research on blended learning, I have found more evidence to support it as well as more information regarding the implementation of blended learning plans. The latest information on planning out the implementation of blended learning helped me realize that a successful innovation plan will require careful planning, training, and involvement of all stakeholders. Training at all levels will help create a cohesive community of people who can share ideas and create common goals and language for a successful implementation. Creating a plan that is sustainable will also require continued research into blended learning strategies and ongoing training. Some of the blended learning innovations in my research failed due to lack of planning, lack of a common vision and language, and lack of training. This is the reason why I am shifting my focus to the planning part of my implementation. I also want to add a share point for lessons and strategies which will be accessible to anyone planning blended learning lessons within our organization. It is also important that support is given to early adopters of blended learning. Evidence suggests that supporting early adopters and providing training for all stakeholders is more likely to lead to blended learning that is sustainable.
Another area of change for my plan includes a broader picture of what blended learning looks like. When I created my original innovation plan, I was focused on implementing the station rotation model. After further researching, I have realized that the vision for blended learning in my organization may take different forms in different classrooms. My goal is for teachers to add the blended learning model that best suits the needs of their students, subject area, and overall style of teaching. Allowing teachers to take ownership of what blended learning looks like for them will help with buy-in and will also create diverse learning opportunities for students.
Moving forward, I plan to use what I have seen in the research on blended learning to help refine my innovation plan. The inclusion of all stakeholders in the planning process before implementation of my plan is vital to its success. Training and collaboration for all stakeholders is another key to successful implementation of blended learning. Once I have created a successful pilot program for blended learning in my classroom, the next step will be creating a survey for my district to assess knowledge of technology and will be used to create training in blended learning, and identify early adopters and find ways to support them. The biggest take away from my current research into blended learning has been the importance of a well thought out plan for the implementation to be successful.
