![]() I have started the planning phase of creating an online course for my current class in the DLL program at Lamar University. I will be creating an online course for my 6th graders to use asynchronously as a supplement to their regular social studies class. The focus of my course will be on how geography affects settlements. This is something students have struggled with in the past and it is important that they understand it as a foundation for the entire year. This course will be structured for use in my class, at home, or in the enrichment and tutoring time our students have in school. I plan to be detailed and specific in the course instructions, so that most students will be able to work through the course on their own.
My starting point has been the UbD plan that I created in my 5313 learning environments course. I will create a detailed outline from this that gives activities and learning goals for each day. The outline will be organized by weeks which will eventually be used to create modules in my learning management system (LMS). I have chosen to create my course using Canvas, though the parts will be transferable to other LMS platforms. Starting with the learning goals for my students will help me flesh out what is needed to get them there one concept at a time.
